Travel agent hiring has shifted toward sellers who book high-margin trips in Sabre, Amadeus or Apollo. Your resume has to show sales, not service.

Lead with booked revenue and commission earned. Travel agency managers and host-agency recruiters look for named GDS systems, supplier relationships and repeat-client books.

The examples below show how to frame that record for corporate, leisure and luxury desks, with pay near the bottom tenth around $34,610.

Booked revenue by supplier mix, a niche specialty like luxury cruise or corporate travel, and GDS or booking platform fluency are what separate the Travel Agent resumes that host-agency recruiters advance from the rest.

Why this resume works

  • Numbers tied to revenue: Opens with a real booked-volume figure and a repeat-client percentage, which is exactly how agency owners size up a candidate’s book.
  • Names real suppliers and systems: Sabre, ClientBase, Virtuoso, and specific DMCs signal she has actually worked the tools, not just read the brochure.
  • Shows she can handle a bad day: The Heathrow rebooking bullet proves she can rescue clients under pressure, which is the moment agencies earn their fee.

Travel Agent Example

This resume fits a newer Travel Agent building a book of leisure or corporate clients. Show booking volume, supplier training, and the destinations or trip types you already sell with confidence to repeat customers.

Why this resume works

  • Honest about experience level: Eighteen months in the seat is stated up front, so a hiring manager isn’t guessing whether her numbers came from a mentor’s book.
  • Specialty is clear and sellable: Disney and Mexico beach are two of the highest-volume leisure segments, and calling that out helps her land at an agency that sells the same thing.
  • Hotel background is a real asset: The front-desk job shows she already understands room categories, rate codes, and guest complaints, which shortens onboarding.

Senior Travel Agent Example

A Senior Travel Agent resume has to prove you own complex itineraries and high-value clients. Lead with revenue booked, preferred supplier status, group or luxury specialties, and the retention rate on your personal client list.

Why this resume works

  • Book size is stated clearly: Naming the annual booked volume and the split between leisure and corporate lets a hiring manager picture the role on day one.
  • Handled a supplier failure: Rebooking a 22-person group after an operator went bankrupt is the kind of story a senior agent should be able to tell.
  • Career arc makes sense: Airline reservations, then leisure, then senior with a corporate mix is a believable path and explains where the technical GDS skill came from.

Travel Agency Manager / Independent Host Agent Example

This resume suits a Travel Agency Manager or Independent Host Agent running a team or a hosted network. Show agent headcount, sales targets hit, commission splits managed, and the systems you use to keep bookings compliant.

Why this resume works

  • Runs a real business, not a title: Naming the contractor count, the commission splits, and the annual sales figure shows this is an owner who actually knows her P&L.
  • Still sells personally: Keeping a $1.9M personal book while managing 22 ICs is a credibility signal, hosts who stop selling lose touch with what their agents are dealing with.
  • Handles the boring accreditation work: Owning the annual accreditation renewals and rebuilding commission tracking are the unglamorous jobs that keep a host agency alive, and calling them out matters.

How to Write a Travel Agent Resume

01 Open with a profile that names your booking scope

Your profile should state your years selling travel, the host agency or brand you sit under, and the trip types you book most weeks. Name the segments you run: leisure, corporate, groups, cruise, luxury, or destination weddings. Say which suppliers you sell most, such as Sandals, Virtuoso, AmaWaterways, or Marriott.

Travel agency managers and host-agency recruiters read this first to see if your book matches their commission mix. A generic line about loving to travel gives them nothing to place you against. Put the region focus on the same line, such as Caribbean, Europe river cruise, or Africa safari.

Three or four sentences at the top of page one is the right length.

02 Turn bookings into numbers a manager can read

Recruiters scan for annual gross bookings, commissionable revenue, and repeat-client rate before they read anything else. Name two or three real numbers per role, such as $1.2M in annual bookings and a 38 percent repeat rate.

Add average trip value, group size, or number of bookings issued each month. If you sit inside a host agency, cite your rank or tier when you have one.

For newer agents, use scope language: 40 leisure files a month, or six group departures a year.

03 Group your work into clear service categories

Sort your bullets into three or four buckets so a reader can scan them. Sales and consultation covers lead intake, discovery calls, quoting, and closing the sale. Itinerary design covers air, hotel, transfer, tour, and insurance sourcing across suppliers.

Booking and servicing covers reservation creation, deposits, final payments, document delivery, and schedule-change handling. Client care covers pre-trip briefings, in-destination support, and post-trip follow-up for reviews and referrals. If you run groups, add a bucket for contracting room blocks and managing rooming lists.

Keep each bullet to one line. Lead with the verb, name the supplier or booking system where it fits, and close with a number or a client outcome.

04 Place tools and supplier training near the top

Travel agency managers and host-agency recruiters want to see your booking system and CRM fluency on page one, not buried on page two. Put a short skills block under the profile that lists Sabre, Amadeus, Apollo, ClientBase, Tres, or Travel Joy, whichever you use daily. Name any industry credentials you hold in a single line, and note your state seller-of-travel registration where required.

Verify current requirements with your state agency, since rules vary by state. Add supplier certifications you have completed, such as Sandals training, Karisma, Disney EarMarked, or Rocky Mountaineer Circle. These signal commission tiers and fam-trip access.

List each with the year completed so a reader can see how current your training is.

05 Close with education and niche proof

End with a short education section and a niche-proof block. Education can be one line: your degree or your travel school program, such as The Travel Institute or a recognized industry course. If you came from another field, name the transferable skill in one bullet, such as account management or event planning.

Below education, add a niche block that lists your top destinations by booking volume and any fam trips you have taken. Two or three lines is enough: Italy (12 site inspections), Alaska cruise (fam 2023), and South Africa safari (fam 2024). This tells a manager where you can consult without a script.

Skip hobbies unless they map to a sellable niche, such as scuba, ski, or golf.

Most Popular Skills on Travel Agent Resumes for 2026

Travel agency managers and host-agency recruiters read dozens of Travel Agent resumes a week. They scan for the booking systems and destination knowledge that map to the job posting in front of them. Hard skills like GDS booking prove you can quote and ticket on day one.

Soft skills like client rapport tell them you can hold a repeat book of business. Both matter, but the hard skills gate the first pass through the tracking system. Pull up the posting you want and mark every tool and region it names.

Match those terms in your own words across your summary, your bullets and your skills block. Treat the soft skills below as claims your work bullets have to back up with a number or a story. A line that says you managed group air for a 40-person incentive trip earns the phrase client rapport.

A bare list of adjectives will not.

Soft Skills AI-estimated %
Client needs assessment 71%
Destination knowledge sharing 64%
Attention to detail 47%
Customer relationship building 37%
Problem-solving under pressure 27%

And here are the top hard skills showing up most often.

Hard Skills AI-estimated %
Itinerary planning 74%
GDS booking systems 59%
Travel cost computation 41%
Reservation management 40%
Tour package sales 34%

Skill names and rankings come from an AI model grounded in U.S. Department of Labor occupation data for travel agents, not from a count of travel agents’ resumes built on ResumeTemplates.com.

Must Have on a Travel Agent Resume

Leisure and corporate travel use different vocabulary on the page.

Niche Keywords for ATS Checkers

Travel agency managers and host-agency recruiters scan for the tools you run. They also scan for the routes and clients you already know. Each row below covers one slice of travel agent work. Pick the rows that match your actual desk. Then work those terms into your bullets and skills list. Leisure work leans on suppliers, cruise lines and family bookings. Corporate work leans on GDS systems and duty of care. Luxury work leans on villa product and private aviation. Group work leans on room blocks and tour operators. Destination expertise carries weight when the posting names a region. Keep the trade spelling on any system name or code.

Niche Keywords ATS scans for
GDS and Booking Tech Sabre, Amadeus, Apollo
Corporate Travel Concur, duty of care, policy compliance
Leisure and Cruise custom itineraries, cruise bookings, shore excursions
Luxury and Villa Virtuoso, Four Seasons Preferred, private aviation
Groups and Tours room blocks, site inspections, tour operators

AI Skills to Add

Clients split between travelers who want AI-fast quotes and travelers who want a human who has walked the property. Agency owners and host-agency recruiters read your resume with that split in mind. Name the tools you actually use in your booking workflow. Describe how you check the output against GDS availability, supplier contracts and current advisories. Do not claim you build itineraries with AI if your real practice is drafting options and verifying rates. Say who reviews the fares, the visa rules and the cancellation terms before a client sees them. That framing reads as honest to travel agency managers and host-agency recruiters.

What AI is actually changing for this role
First-draft itineraries

AI drafts day-by-day options faster, but you still confirm hours, transfers and seasonal closures against supplier sources.

Client intake

Chat assistants sort budget, dates and traveler count, and you take over once real preferences and passports come up.

Quote turnaround

AI pulls comparable hotel and air options in minutes, and you price the final quote inside your GDS or booking engine.

Post-booking service

AI flags schedule changes and advisory updates, and you decide what the client hears and when you call.

AI tools to name

  • ChatGPT: Draft destination briefs, packing notes and client emails, then edit against supplier terms and current advisories.
  • Copilot in Microsoft 365: Summarize supplier emails, pull quote details into Excel, and format client proposals in Word.
How to phrase AI on your resume
Do
  • Name the tool and the step it supports
  • Say who verifies fares and visa rules
Skip
  • AI-powered luxury travel curation
  • Revolutionizing the client booking journey

Latest BLS Statistics for Travel Agents

The Travel Agent pay distribution has a long upper tail. The 90th percentile out-earns the median by roughly half again, while the 10th percentile sits about a third below it. That spread is wider than a market where seat-time alone sets pay.

It points to a market that rewards a defined niche, a repeat client roster, and supplier relationships that carry higher commissions. National employment is moderate, so the density of the field is thinner than in general office roles. Build the resume around the trip types you book most, the destinations or suppliers you specialize in, and the size of the client book you carry.

Lead with the niche before the years, not the other way around.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I write a CV for a travel agency with no agency experience?

Lead with transferable service work: hotel front desk, airline reservations, or retail sales tied to travel. Name the booking systems you have touched at any level, even personal trip planning through Sabre or Amadeus training.

Add any host-agency onboarding you have completed, since managers read that as proof you understand commission splits and supplier codes.

Should I list personal trips I have planned on my travel agent resume?

Only if you frame them as itinerary design with real numbers, not vacation stories. Write the destination, the party size, the total budget managed, and the suppliers you booked directly.

A line reading "Planned a 12-day Japan itinerary for six travelers on a $28,000 budget" reads as portfolio work.

How do I show commission and sales numbers without breaking agency confidentiality?

Use percentages, ratios, or rounded ranges instead of exact revenue figures your host agency treats as private. Write "grew repeat-client bookings by 34 percent year over year" rather than naming the dollar total on the ledger.

Travel agency managers and host-agency recruiters recognize this as standard practice and will not read it as vagueness.

How do I handle a resume gap from the pandemic slowdown in travel?

Name the gap plainly and fill it with anything you did that kept you close to the industry. Virtual supplier training, destination webinars, or refund and rebooking work for a former client base all count.

A short line saying "Completed 40 hours of Sandals and Royal Caribbean training during 2020 to 2021" closes the question before a manager asks it.

Should I put my host agency on the resume or the storefront brand I sell under?

List both, with the host agency as the employer and the brand as a parenthetical. A line reading "Independent Contractor, Travel Planners International (dba Coastline Travel Co.)" tells a recruiter which back office you run through.

That matters because commission structure, GDS access, and supplier contracts all flow through the host, not the storefront name.

How do I show a niche like luxury or destination weddings without limiting my options?

Put the niche in your profile line and back it with two or three bullets in your work history. Keep the rest of the resume broad enough to show leisure, group, and corporate booking capacity.

Managers hire specialists who can still cover a general call queue during shoulder season.

Do I need to list every supplier and destination I have booked?

No. Group them into three or four categories such as all-inclusive resorts, ocean and river cruise lines, and European rail.

Name the two or three suppliers per category where you hold preferred status or completed formal training. A wall of logos reads as filler and pushes real accomplishments off the first page.

What's the best resume template for a travel agent?

An ATS-friendly template puts your travel certifications next to the sales figures in your work history. A basic template suits travel agent resumes as well.
