Forklift jobs move fast: a single warehouse posting can stack up two or three hundred applicants before the listing even cycles off the board. The seats are there. Distribution centers, third-party logistics yards, manufacturing plants, cold storage, and retail DCs are all short-staffed, but the stack of resumes hitting each supervisor's desk is deep. A current OSHA certification paired with the equipment classes you've actually run, sit-down, reach, stand-up, is the proof that pulls your resume out of the pile.

Depending on the employer, your resume either passes through an ATS keyword scan or lands directly with the warehouse supervisor. Clean throughput numbers like pallets moved per shift clear both. We've reviewed thousands of forklift operator resumes that landed offers. The examples below cover reach truck, order picker, and lead operator roles, from entry level to seasoned.

Tip !

The forklift operator resumes that get pulled from the stack share three things: a current OSHA certification with class numbers, named equipment and WMS systems, and a clean safety record stated in years.

Why this resume works
  • Clean safety record with real numbers: Calling out 11,400+ shift hours without an incident gives a hiring manager the one number they care about most for a forklift role.
  • Lists the specific trucks operated: Naming counterbalance, reach truck, and order picker by OSHA class signals he can step onto equipment day one without retraining.
  • Shows he trains other operators: Cutting ramp-up time from 5 weeks to 3 turns a hands-on role into a leadership signal warehouses notice.

Entry Level Example

You hold a current OSHA certification and have run a forklift in a training yard, temp assignment, or short stint under a year. Your resume needs to prove safe operation, the equipment classes you trained on, and reliable attendance.

Entry Level Example - Forklift Operator

Use This Template
Why this resume works
  • Lists the exact certification: Naming the OSHA cert and the year tells employers the card is current and they can put him on a lift this week.
  • Honest about experience level: The summary says he’s looking to grow into reach and order picker work, which reads truthful instead of overselling a new operator.
  • Shows safety habits, not just speed: Spotting cracked fork tines and reporting them is exactly the behavior shift leads want from a junior operator.

Experienced Example

You have three or more years moving pallets across sit-down, reach, and stand-up trucks in a production warehouse. Your resume needs to prove throughput, a clean safety record, and fluency with the WMS and scanner systems on the floor.

Use This Template
Why this resume works
  • Leads a team, not just a lift: Running safety huddles and training 22 operators shows he’s ready for a lead or supervisor role, not another solo seat.
  • Real damage reduction number: Cutting blue-tag damage by 41% gives a hiring manager a concrete dollar story about saved racking and saved freight.
  • Range of equipment and environments: Cold storage, rail unloading, clamp attachments, and double pallet handler tells you he can step into almost any warehouse layout.

How to Write a Forklift Operator Resume

01 Open with a profile that names your equipment scope

Your profile should state your years on a forklift and the equipment classes you run. Name sit-down counterbalance, reach truck, stand-up rider, order picker, or pallet jack by class number.

Add the setting you have worked in, like ambient warehouse, cold storage, lumber yard, or production plant. Close with your OSHA certification status and any WMS you have used on the floor.

02 Quantify throughput and safety in real numbers

Warehouse supervisors scan for pallets per hour, loads moved per shift, and inventory accuracy.

Name two or three metrics you can defend in an interview. A strong bullet might cite pallets moved per shift, picks per hour, or months without a recordable safety incident.

03 Group your work into clear duty categories

Bucket your bullets into load handling, inventory and scanning, dock work, and equipment care. This helps a supervisor read your scope in under a minute.

Name the work you actually did under each bucket. Mention receiving, putaway, replenishment, loading trailers, cycle counts, RF scanning, pre-shift inspections, and battery or propane changes.

04 Place certifications and tools on page one

Build a credentials block near the top with your OSHA powered industrial truck certification, the issue date, and the truck classes covered. List any aerial lift or pallet jack tickets next to it.

Add a short tools line for the WMS, scanners, and ERP you have used, like SAP EWM, Manhattan, HighJump, or Zebra handhelds. Supervisors check this before reading bullets. If you also move and sort packages by hand, see our package handler resume examples for ways to present your certifications and tools.

05 Close with education and reliability signals

End with your high school diploma or GED, plus any trade or vocational coursework. Add safety-related training like HAZMAT awareness, lockout/tagout, or forklift train-the-trainer if you hold them.

If your attendance record is strong, state it. A line noting perfect attendance over a defined period or a safety bonus earned signals reliability to the next supervisor.

Must Have on a Forklift Operator Resume

Mention your truck classes and any safety training you’ve completed.

OSHA Certifications

The OSHA powered industrial truck certification is the baseline. The add-ons below tell a supervisor you take safety beyond the minimum.

  • OSHA Powered Industrial Truck Operator Certification (29 CFR 1910.178)
  • OSHA 10-Hour General Industry
  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry (for lead operator roles)
  • Lockout/Tagout (29 CFR 1910.147) training
  • HAZMAT Awareness or DOT HAZMAT Handling

Tools of the Trade

Job posts filter on brand names and truck classes. Name the equipment, WMS, and scanner systems you have used so your resume matches the keywords on the post.

  • Trucks: Toyota, Crown, Raymond, Hyster, Yale, Caterpillar
  • Truck classes: Class I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII
  • WMS: SAP EWM, Manhattan, HighJump (Korber), Oracle WMS, Blue Yonder
  • Scanners and handhelds: Zebra, Honeywell, Vocollect voice-pick
  • Dock equipment: dock plates, levelers, trailer restraints, slip sheets

CDL and Endorsements

Most forklift jobs do not require a CDL, but related driving and equipment tickets help your resume clear the first read at 3PLs, yards, and manufacturing plants.

List each credential with the issuing body and date. Group them in a credentials block near the top so a supervisor finds them before reading bullets.

If you hold a CDL or a yard truck (spotter) endorsement, list it. Some distribution centers cross-train forklift operators on yard moves, and the ticket gives you scheduling range.

  • OSHA powered industrial truck certification with truck classes covered
  • Aerial or scissor lift certification (ANSI A92)
  • Yard truck (spotter or hostler) experience or training
  • Class A or B CDL, if held, with current medical card
  • Pallet jack and walkie-rider operation

DOT Requirements

Most warehouse and 3PL employers run a pre-employment drug screen and a background check before your start date.

You do not need to mention drug testing on your resume. Recruiters assume you are willing to test and will ask during the phone screen.

If you hold a CDL or work in a DOT-regulated facility, you may sit in a random testing pool. Be ready to answer honestly about past test results when asked on the application.

Forklift Operation Credentials That Get You the Job

The credentials below tell warehouse supervisors which equipment you can run on day one and how seriously you take safety on a busy floor. List each credential with the certifying body and the issue or expiration date.

  • OSHA Powered Industrial Truck Operator Certification: The federal baseline under 29 CFR 1910.178. List the issuing employer or training provider and the truck classes covered.
  • Aerial and Scissor Lift Certification (ANSI A92): Signals you can work order picking, racking repair, and high-bay tasks beyond standard pallet moves.
  • OSHA 10-Hour General Industry: Shows broader safety training across hazard recognition, PPE, and lockout/tagout, which supervisors read as a reliability signal.
  • HAZMAT Awareness or DOT HAZMAT Handling: Useful for chemical, pharma, and 3PL warehouses moving regulated freight that needs trained handlers on the dock.

Latest BLS Statistics for Forklift Operators

For forklift operators, the 10th-percentile floor reflects entry-level shifts on a single truck class, often through a staffing agency. The top-decile ceiling rewards multi-class operators in union shops, cold storage, hazmat-heavy 3PLs, and high-cost metros. That spread tells you equipment range, shift differential, and industry move you from floor to ceiling more than tenure alone.

Lead your resume with the truck classes you run, the WMS you have used, and the setting (cold storage, lumber, hazmat) that maps to the higher band.

$46,390 National median annual
$47,830 National mean annual
$36,500 Entry-tier floor (10th percentile)
$61,540 Top-decile ceiling (90th percentile)
805,770 Forklift Operators in the U.S.
Where you stand

Entry tier

$36,500 to $46,390 At the entry tier, your resume needs to show a current OSHA certification, the truck classes you trained on, and any temp or training-yard hours.

Top decile

$61,540+ At the top decile, your resume needs to show lead operator or trainer duties, cold storage or hazmat settings, and throughput numbers across full shifts.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you list forklift certification on a resume?

Name the truck classes it covers, like Class II reach truck or Class IV sit-down, next to your OSHA powered industrial truck certification.

Add the date of your most recent employer evaluation, since OSHA requires reevaluation at least every three years. Keep the certification card itself for the in-person interview.

What skills should a forklift operator put on a resume?

Lead with equipment classes, OSHA status, and WMS or scanner experience. These are the terms warehouse supervisors filter on first.

Add load handling, dock work, and inventory accuracy. Back each with a bullet that names the setting and a real number from your shift.

What should a forklift operator put in the resume summary?

Follow the profile structure in step 01.

Add your current OSHA certification status and one number that proves throughput, accuracy, or a safety streak. Three sentences is enough.

How do you write a forklift resume with no experience?

Lead with your OSHA training, the truck classes you trained on, and any hands-on hours from class or a temp role.

Then show transferable work like warehouse picking, loading dock help, or labor jobs with steady attendance. Supervisors read attendance and safety attitude as the entry-level proof.

What resume template should a forklift operator use?

An ATS-friendly template can cover your forklift certification and the number of pallets you move per shift. You can go with a basic template.
